Lap Steel Winner + New Shane Speal album news & more...

Happy Friday the 13th!  As promised, I'm going to give away that cool lap steel guitar made from salvaged wood.  I've also got news about next week's New Orleans Cigar Box Guitar Fest and my next two albums!

Coming soon - These Frustrating Blues, the best of album that will kickstart the next CD

In a couple weeks, I will be releasing These Frustrating Blues: Best of The Solo Collection.  The one hour album features the best songs from my pre-Snake Oil Band releases.  There will be t-shirts, hats and all kinds of fun kickstarter things to go along with it.

But wait...this isn't the new album I've been promising!  I am also planning a brand new CD of original music to be released in late 2017.  Backers of the upcoming kickstarter will actually be funding the studio time and expenses of making the new release.  The only difference is they'll get the fun rewards now.

Does that make sense?  I think that makes sense, right?  The kickstarter will happen in about 2 weeks.

The Lap Steel winner is...  Dennis Brooker!
I will be contacting Dennis this morning to get a shipping address and will mail this freaky guitar out this weekend.  Congratulations, Dennis!

New Orleans Cigar Box Guitar Festival is next week!
Why yes, that's Beale Street blues legend, Richard Johnston and myself on stage together!  That photo was taken more than 10 years ago.  We will be on stage together again in New Orleans next week.

I will kick off the three day event on Thursday at the New Orleans Jazz Museum with a lecture, performance and special screening of the Max Shores documentary, Songs Inside the Box.

Concerts continue Friday and Saturday, with Johnston and myself concluding the event Saturday night.

Get the entire schedule, locations and information at  See you there!

Have you seen The Edge Guitar Slide?  It's made to create the sounds of pocketknife slides of Blind Willie Johnson and Mance Lipscomb.  I have more in stock and this nifty demo video.  See them at

Stay primal!
